Our Homeschool Classroom

Hello Not Back to School Blog hoppers!
If you're a regular here then you know I've just changed up the schoolroom.
So, I formally had my schooling area in the main living area.  But after too many times of having to run around looking for something in another room, or having to clean up the dining room table in the middle of a project; I decided that we needed to have a classroom after all.  It makes sense and I don't feel like staring at world maps and art projects all day long either.

Update: So, after seeing everyone's GREAT spaces, it urged me to see how I could improve what we have to work with.  So I went to work this morning and did some cleaning, organizing, and moving.
Welcome to Holy Trinity Academy!

So this is a view looking into the room from the doorway.  It's the tiniest room in the house, so it works for this purpose.

Here's the after

Just creeping in a little more here, trying to show you as much as possible.

This is with my back against the opposite side of the room, not breathing, trying to become one with the wall, shot.

Another after here

We studied birds last year for nature study and we've become amateur birders.  This is our chart of birds that we know visit us.

Another closer shot

These are the boxes that I use to house all of our supplies.  From staples, to pens, pencils, glue dots, crayons, etc.  It's found here.

After picture, this stuffs in the closet now

Our whiteboard/AAS board.  We use this for spelling lessons as well as me having to write something down for them to copy.  This is set for tomorrow.  I don't know why I thought tomorrow was the 16th?  I've since changed it, but was too lazy to retake the picture.

 Self-explanatory I think.

Update, the computer is now on my massive bookshelf

This is my science board.  I picked up two of these massive bulletin boards at the local thrift shop for $10.00 each!  They retail for like $70.00, so that was a deal I couldn't pass up.  I've since dropped my original science curriculum plans and have decided to go with Apologia Astronomy.  It's a better curriculum and I'm just going to stick with what works.  So my science board features the topic of the year and we add information to it as we learn things.

This is my art hanger thingy.  I just painted a board and hot glued some clothes pins on.  It holds art work that is drying until it can be displayed elsewhere.

This is my children's nature collection shelf.  The white container is their rock collection, the small glass jar holds pine cones, and the basket contains seashells.

This is the stereo system for audio books, religious music and others.  Each day, I play Gregorian Chanting cd's as my children do their independent subjects.  It's soothing and helps them to concentrate better.

I was able to set up our piano instead of it standing up in a corner!  Yay!

This basket is the "Morning Basket".  It holds my teacher's manuals and lesson plans.

I think that about sums up our learning room.  Thanks for stopping by!
God Bless,

It is so exciting to see all the wonderful information on home schooling. When I started home schooling in 1984 it was far different. People asked what was wrong with my children that they were not in school!

That's so sad that people can't see the value of keeping their children home to educate them. They treat their children as though they are an item to be dropped off "programmed" and then picked up. I could never.

It looks wonderful. WE did just the opposite. I put my classroom in the largest room in the house. LOL!
Blessings, Dawn

@ Lena, and to you to!

@ Dawn, I would love to use the biggest room, but my kids would have zero room to play. They play in their bedrooms.

I love how you worked with the space you had so beautifully! How did you attach the white board and cork board over the shelves like that?

Mary said...

Brookie-Lee,

Thank you very much for your sweet comment!

I attached the white board and corkboard by using cup hooks and binder rings. I simply screwed the cup hooks into the bookshelves. Then for the cork board I drilled some small holes in the frame to thread the binder rings through. The white board already had small holes at all four corners, so that was ready to go. This way I can take them off to get to something I may need, although I make sure all of my materials I'm using this year are on another bookshelf that's easily accessible.

Thanks for stopping by!

God Bless,
Mary

Brookie-Lee,

I meant to say BOOK rings, not binder rings. It's late and I've got insomnia. Or is it early?

Kim,

Thanks so much! If only it would stay that organized. I'd say 2 weeks in we all get lazy and start plopping things on any shelf.

God Bless,
Mary
