Story of the World Volume 1 Resources

I've created a timeline and some notebooking pages that correspond with The Story of the World Vol. 1, Ancient Times.  I'd like to share them with you so that you may enhance your studies with your own children.  We will be starting Vol. 2 very soon and so I look forward to sharing those with you as well.  When you print the timeline cards out, print them with the settings "multiple pages per sheet".  Use the 9 pages per sheet option.  This will give you the ideal size for the timelines.  I would suggest printing out cardstock at the very least.  Laminate for a more durable, long lasting timeline.

I have broken down the timeline strips into colors.  Red for ancient, blue for end of ancient and middle ages, orange for early modern and green for modern.  This will aid your child visually to be able to see the eras of history.  I also recommend that you add your own children to the timeline.  This also helps them place themselves in the big picture.

You will find at the top of each notebooking page a timeline.

Have your child find the date on the timeline on that page and either draw a dot, use a star sticker, or any other method you may want to use to have your child mark the date.  Please enjoy, learn much and visit for updates.

Disclaimer: You know, the old please don't sell anything that you download here.  I share all of my files free of charge.  Please link back to this blog if sharing.  Thanks!

  3. Hey! Thanks so much for sharing these great ideas! I have enjoyed adding lapbooking to our studies as well. There are several lapbook ideas on the web that go along with the story of the world. I have posted some on my blog:

  4. I forgot to mention that for whatever reason, I can't get the timeline cards to print with the words on them, only the pictures. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? So not a techy head! :)

  6. You've totally made my day! Thank you so much for sharing these amazing resources. We are just beginning homeschooling this next year and I'm trying to get organized with what we need to go with our SOTW curriculum. This was a HUGE help. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  7. I just printed the timeline and cards out (on matte photo paper, and I will laminate later). I haven't found a timeline I like, and this is beautiful. We also have a very small living space, and we have people in our home frequently, so I love the corkboard idea, too! Thank you so much for your willingness to share. Can't wait for Volumes 3 and 4!

  8. Thank you so much for sharing these. I don't homeschool...yet...(I would have no problem pulling them out if I start to feel like they aren't getting what they need). My boys go to a Spanish immersion school that I am happy with, but I feel there are certain areas where they are not learning as much as I would like, history being the main one. I read The Well-Trained Mind last summer and wanted to enrich their education over the summer but got busy and didn't do as much as planned. This summer I decided to go for it and I wanted to do a timeline. Love your approach!

  11. Your generosity is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing all your time, effort and beautiful work.

Quick question... do you have "daily lesson plans" for volume 1 like you created for volume 2? Seeing how you broke down each day for each chapter has been invaluable.

  26. Hi Mary, I am so excited about using your timeline cards but I can't seem to get the link to work. The link for the timeline Strips works, but not the cards. Do you have any suggestions?? Thank you! Renee (Perth, Australia)

  27. Are the notebook pages just for summarizing what they learned?

    ReplyDelete
  28. What are the dimensions of the cork board you used?

  30. Thank you so much for this!! The visual aspect it will give to our SOW readings will be great.

For those set off by the 128 pages, I sent it off to an online printing company and it will be here in 4 days, all colored pages for under $25 with shipping included. That is still cheaper than me using up my $60 ink.

  31. Hi Mary -- I can't tell you what a blessing it is that you have shared these resources. I'm a first time home schooling mom, with four students spread across three grades, and every bit of help I get is invaluable. Please know, as with everyone else who's said so here, that your sharing these items is a blessing beyond belief. Thank you!

  32. Hello Mary! My name is Karin. I'm just beyond excited and thrilled to find your SOTW figures. I was about to get online and try to make my own for each chapter and now I see you've done all the work already! BLESS YOU! I have two favors to ask...first, would you please give me a way to contact you so I can send a little thank you your way? Second, I'm having challenges downloading the files and would love to ask some assistance. Thanks so much!

  33. Hi Mary, I am having the same problem downloading them. it goes to an error page.
Please let me know if there is a better way? Thank You!

  34. I'm in the same boat. When I go to download the files, it says "Error (403)
It seems you don't belong here! You should probably sign in. Check out our Help Center and forums for help, or head back to home."

Great site--can't wait to start timelining with my 3rd grader.

  39. Mary, I am having the same trouble. I keep getting sent to an error page in Dropbox. Can you help? The work that you have done looks amazing. I am looking forward to using them. Thanks!

  40. I am having the same issue. As a Canadian, I am always excited to get things for free as we pay huge shipping costs and exchange rate for anything we purchase from the U.S. So finding FREE anything to help with our home schooling journey is always very welcomed and appreciated!

  43. Me too - I'm getting the DropBox error. Is there another way to get these awesome resources? Thank you!

  44. Mary, would you mind if another user shared your files to us? (someone that already downloaded them before they were made unavailable) I know that you are probably busy with life (we all get that way at times) but these are such highly praised resources. I'd love to get them. I know others would as well. Someone who already has them could upload them again to DropBox and share that link here...

  45. Ditto on getting the error and would love to have access to this. Thank you for being willing to share!

  46. Hi Mary,

The links that are on this page are not leading to any downloadable pages. We're going to be tackling SOTW Volume 1 for the first time this fall and would love to be able to use the cards and sheets you've created. I've been looking around quite a bit and this seems like exactly what we've been looking for! Thanks in advance!

  47. When I click on the "Timeline Cards SOTW Vol 1: Ancients" link, it just brings me to a page that reads:

    "File not found
Sorry, that file doesn’t live here anymore. It might have been moved or made private."

Am I missing something? Or are these printables just no longer available?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I cannot download the figures as well.

  49. Try this link: http://tendingourlordsgarden.blogspot.com/search/label/SOTW%20Vol%201 It appears to be the same post, but maybe in a different location? I just clicked on the "SOTW Vol 1" label in the right-hand bar of this page.

  53. Hello Mary! I was wondering if there was a possibility of having the links fixed. They are not functioning properly. I would so greatly appreciate it. Hoping your storms have stayed at bay, but if not, God is our anchor. :o)

  54. Links are not working..... Is there somewhere else to find or purchase these?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think maybe when accessing blog on your phone it doesn’t come up correctly. Go to blog homepage and scroll to the bottom. Click access web version. Then, in bottom right hand corner click the SOTW blog post and then the links all work.

  56. Links aren't working for me either to get the timeline cards! Would love these for this next year! Thanks!

  57. Yes, it looks like they may have been deleted from the dropbox account. Wondering if available anywhere else. Sorry for bothering you.
