I've created a timeline and some notebooking pages that correspond with The Story of the World Vol. 1, Ancient Times. I'd like to share them with you so that you may enhance your studies with your own children. We will be starting Vol. 2 very soon and so I look forward to sharing those with you as well. When you print the timeline cards out, print them with the settings "multiple pages per sheet". Use the 9 pages per sheet option. This will give you the ideal size for the timelines. I would suggest printing out cardstock at the very least. Laminate for a more durable, long lasting timeline.
I have broken down the timeline strips into colors. Red for ancient, blue for end of ancient and middle ages, orange for early modern and green for modern. This will aid your child visually to be able to see the eras of history. I also recommend that you add your own children to the timeline. This also helps them place themselves in the big picture.
You will find at the top of each notebooking page a timeline.
Have your child find the date on the timeline on that page and either draw a dot, use a star sticker, or any other method you may want to use to have your child mark the date. Please enjoy, learn much and visit for updates.
Disclaimer: You know, the old please don't sell anything that you download here. I share all of my files free of charge. Please link back to this blog if sharing. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your hard work in making this, and your willingness to share them with others!
These are excellent! My oldest can use these for her History Odyssey Level 2, even. Awesome stuff! Thanks.
No problem! I will be making the timeline cards and notebooking pages for Vol 2. This coming week or next, so be sure to check back.
We are using HO as well. We'll be starting Level 2 in a couple of weeks.

Just to let you know how much I appreciate your blog, I've awarded you the Versatile Award:)

I'm honored! I just love to share anything that I can. There are plenty of things out there for sale, but I know that everyone struggles in some way, so I like to help out how I can. :)
It looks like you have your timeline on a cork bulletin board.......may I ask what size it is? Thanks!
Sure, yes it's on a bulletin board that is 48x36 inches.
Thank you, it looks great!
Mary,
I printed out and laminated your cards, and glued the timeline strips onto a paper, thanks so much! One question I have, out of my own laziness and need to pre-plan, is this: I noticed that most or all of your events correspond to the chronology of events on page 317 of SOTW. Do you know which chapters the events go with? I'll figure it out when we do the reading, but I'd love to go ahead and put each card in the correct folder for each chapter in advance if I can. I'm a plan-ahead sort of person :) Thanks
Mary Ann,
You know, I don't really remember what chapters they all corresponded to. When I make the cards I kind of just look at the dates in the back of the book and toss them in the kids pouches the week they read those chapters. I guess I'm not any better at being organized for everything! LOL
Take Care!
I just came across your blog. I downloaded these files and am looking forward to adding them to my plans for this coming year. I have really been struggling with what to do for history. SOTW seems to be my best choice, but I don't love it. Do you use something else in addition to SOTW? Thanks again!
The Mrs,
If you click on my our curriculum tab at the top of the page it will show you everything that we're using. God Bless.
I haven't used SOTW, but I'm seriously considering it for next year's curriculum. The cards and timeline strips look awesome. So how do you use the notebook pages?
Michele,
Thanks. As far as the notebooking pages, you or your child would write what they remember about the particular person or event you just studied about. In the blank box at the bottom your child would then draw a picture of something they remembered from the reading that particularly stood out to them. On the timeline at the top of the page your child would mark when in history it took place.
What a GREAT resource! Thank you so much for providing these things for FREE! For us homeschoolers on a budget, it's a wonderful thing! We're staring SOTW Vol 1 in September and I love your timeline and notebooking pages!
Our Side of the Mountain,
You're welcome! I know all too much what it's like to be on a budget. I always try to buy my books used if possible and make my own things instead of purchase. I'm glad you'll be able to benefit from these resources!
God Bless! Mary
These are great!!!!! Thank you so much and I look forward to volume 2, we start that next week. Thank you again and I love your site!
Caalexander2,
I'm so happy that you can use these and find them helpful! We're also starting SOTW 2 on Monday and I'll have the timeline cards and notebooking pages up by this weekend so please check back!
Thank you so very much for taking the time not only to create these timeline resources for SOTW but to also share them with everyone. We are currently on Chapter 10 of SOTW Volume 1 and I will be your creations to work right away in our homeschool. Thank you again!
Enchanted Homeschooling Mom,
You are so very welcome! Aren't you just loving Story of the World?! I think it's hands down the best History curriculum out there for homeschoolers. We're starting Vol 2 this year and I'm in the process of making up timeline cards and notebooking pages right now, so check back this week.
God Bless,
Mary
I love these. I am planning on using SOTW with my daughter and these are perfect. Thanks so much for sharing.
Katie,
I'm so glad that you'll be able to use these resources in your homeschool! I'm sure you'll follow right into Vol 2 so check back this week for my new timeline cards and notebooking pages to go along with that volume.
God Bless,
Mary
Thanks for your great timeline cards! I printed ours at 6 pages per sheet and they are the perfect size to add to our timeline notebook.
Gabrielle,
So glad that the timeline cards are working for you. I'm getting together the sources for Vol 2 right now, but Vol 2 is HUGE! So it's taking me longer than anticipated. Just keep checking back and I'll have them up soon.
God Bless,
Mary
Mary,
I cannot thank you enough for these timeline cards. This is our second time going through SOTW Ancient times and while I love the books, I really wanted to add timeline cards. They printed out beautifully tonight.
Thank you for all the work that went into creating the cards.
Warmest regards,
Adina Bailey
Adina,
You're welcome.

Hi Mary,
Just stumbled upon your blog while looking for resources to use with Story of the World Volume 2. These look so great and I see you are planning to post some for Volume 2 as well. I would love to use them. Do you think they will be available soon. I hope that does not sound pushy, as I know how much work this. I just thought I would ask, so I could see if I could use them for this year or should look for something else. Thank you so much for your generosity.
Blessings to you!
Beth
Beth,
So glad you are enjoying the resources. I should have Vol 2 finished within the week.
God Bless,
Mary
This is awesome!! We are doing this volume next year and I can't wait to use your timeline cards! I'm having some trouble downloading though from your host site. Any tips?
Stopping in from Pinterest to say thank you for sharing these tools! I went in search of timeline tools to build my own and you seem to be the only site that has a working link, so thanks so much! :)
Thank You Very Much!
Enjoy everyone!
I'll be adding some new resources soon so keep checking back.
