I've created a timeline and some notebooking pages that correspond with The Story of the World Vol. 1, Ancient Times. I'd like to share them with you so that you may enhance your studies with your own children. We will be starting Vol. 2 very soon and so I look forward to sharing those with you as well. When you print the timeline cards out, print them with the settings "multiple pages per sheet". Use the 9 pages per sheet option. This will give you the ideal size for the timelines. I would suggest printing out cardstock at the very least. Laminate for a more durable, long lasting timeline.
I have broken down the timeline strips into colors. Red for ancient, blue for end of ancient and middle ages, orange for early modern and green for modern. This will aid your child visually to be able to see the eras of history. I also recommend that you add your own children to the timeline. This also helps them place themselves in the big picture.
You will find at the top of each notebooking page a timeline.
Have your child find the date on the timeline on that page and either draw a dot, use a star sticker, or any other method you may want to use to have your child mark the date. Please enjoy, learn much and visit for updates.
Disclaimer: You know, the old please don't sell anything that you download here. I share all of my files free of charge. Please link back to this blog if sharing. Thanks!

These are wonderful resources! I can't wait to use them! Thank you for sharing all your hard work!
Thank you so much for your hard work in making this, and your willingness to share them with others!
These are excellent! My oldest can use these for her History Odyssey Level 2, even. Awesome stuff! Thanks.
No problem! I will be making the timeline cards and notebooking pages for Vol 2. This coming week or next, so be sure to check back.
We are using HO as well. We'll be starting Level 2 in a couple of weeks.
Mary
Just to let you know how much I appreciate your blog, I've awarded you the Versatile Award:)
http://sevenlittleaustralians.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/versatile-blogger-award.html
I'm honored! I just love to share anything that I can. There are plenty of things out there for sale, but I know that everyone struggles in some way, so I like to help out how I can. :)
It looks like you have your timeline on a cork bulletin board.......may I ask what size it is? Thanks!
Sure, yes it's on a bulletin board that is 48x36 inches.
Thank you, it looks great!
Mary,
I printed out and laminated your cards, and glued the timeline strips onto a paper, thanks so much! One question I have, out of my own laziness and need to pre-plan, is this: I noticed that most or all of your events correspond to the chronology of events on page 317 of SOTW. Do you know which chapters the events go with? I'll figure it out when we do the reading, but I'd love to go ahead and put each card in the correct folder for each chapter in advance if I can. I'm a plan-ahead sort of person :) Thanks
Mary Ann,
You know, I don't really remember what chapters they all corresponded to. When I make the cards I kind of just look at the dates in the back of the book and toss them in the kids pouches the week they read those chapters. I guess I'm not any better at being organized for everything! LOL
Take Care!
I just came across your blog. I downloaded these files and am looking forward to adding them to my plans for this coming year. I have really been struggling with what to do for history. SOTW seems to be my best choice, but I don't love it. Do you use something else in addition to SOTW? Thanks again!
The Mrs,
If you click on my our curriculum tab at the top of the page it will show you everything that we're using. God Bless.
I haven't used SOTW, but I'm seriously considering it for next year's curriculum. The cards and timeline strips look awesome. So how do you use the notebook pages?
Michele,
Thanks. As far as the notebooking pages, you or your child would write what they remember about the particular person or event you just studied about. In the blank box at the bottom your child would then draw a picture of something they remembered from the reading that particularly stood out to them. On the timeline at the top of the page your child would mark when in history it took place.
What a GREAT resource! Thank you so much for providing these things for FREE! For us homeschoolers on a budget, it's a wonderful thing! We're staring SOTW Vol 1 in September and I love your timeline and notebooking pages!
Our Side of the Mountain,
You're welcome! I know all too much what it's like to be on a budget. I always try to buy my books used if possible and make my own things instead of purchase. I'm glad you'll be able to benefit from these resources!
God Bless! Mary
These are great!!!!! Thank you so much and I look forward to volume 2, we start that next week. Thank you again and I love your site!
Caalexander2,

Thank you so very much for taking the time not only to create these timeline resources for SOTW but to also share them with everyone. We are currently on Chapter 10 of SOTW Volume 1 and I will be your creations to work right away in our homeschool. Thank you again!
Enchanted Homeschooling Mom,
You are so very welcome! Aren't you just loving Story of the World?! I think it's hands down the best History curriculum out there for homeschoolers. We're starting Vol 2 this year and I'm in the process of making up timeline cards and notebooking pages right now, so check back this week.
God Bless,
Mary
I love these. I am planning on using SOTW with my daughter and these are perfect. Thanks so much for sharing.
Katie,
I'm so glad that you'll be able to use these resources in your homeschool! I'm sure you'll follow right into Vol 2 so check back this week for my new timeline cards and notebooking pages to go along with that volume.
God Bless,
Mary
Thanks for your great timeline cards! I printed ours at 6 pages per sheet and they are the perfect size to add to our timeline notebook.
Gabrielle,
So glad that the timeline cards are working for you. I'm getting together the sources for Vol 2 right now, but Vol 2 is HUGE! So it's taking me longer than anticipated. Just keep checking back and I'll have them up soon.
God Bless,
Mary
Mary,
I cannot thank you enough for these timeline cards. This is our second time going through SOTW Ancient times and while I love the books, I really wanted to add timeline cards. They printed out beautifully tonight.
Thank you for all the work that went into creating the cards.
Warmest regards,
Adina Bailey
Adina,
You're welcome.

Hi Mary,
Just stumbled upon your blog while looking for resources to use with Story of the World Volume 2. These look so great and I see you are planning to post some for Volume 2 as well. I would love to use them. Do you think they will be available soon. I hope that does not sound pushy, as I know how much work this. I just thought I would ask, so I could see if I could use them for this year or should look for something else. Thank you so much for your generosity.
Blessings to you!
Beth
Beth,
So glad you are enjoying the resources. I should have Vol 2 finished within the week.
God Bless,
Mary
This is awesome!! We are doing this volume next year and I can't wait to use your timeline cards! I'm having some trouble downloading though from your host site. Any tips?
Stopping in from Pinterest to say thank you for sharing these tools! I went in search of timeline tools to build my own and you seem to be the only site that has a working link, so thanks so much! :)
Thank You Very Much!
Enjoy everyone!
I'll be adding some new resources soon so keep checking back.
This is awesome, thank you SO much!!!!
This is exactly what I have been looking for and want to thank you!!!! What size bulletin board is that you used? I love that idea!
Thank you so much for creating these! They are going to be a huge help for us this year.
Oh, I printed these out at 9 a page, and I'm realizing there are 86 of them and only 42 chapters in the book. I'm guessing they average 2 a chapter? Do you put these on the wall? I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to put this. :) If I print out the color lines, will all of them fit on there since I printed to your specifications?
Wow, thank you so much for this!!!
Thank you for the notebook pages! We are starting over volume 1 again and these are so helpful.
I printed out the timeline cards and they seem much bigger than the picture you provided and I don't think they will fit on the timeline. Any suggestions? BTW thanks SOOOO much this is amazing.
Thank you. I appreciate the work you have done, and that you would share with me.
Mary, I love your timelines. I would like to ask permission to use your Timeline cards and translate to Afrikaans and make available on my blog as download, full credit would be given to you. Would you allow me to?
Mary, so glad to have found your site! What a treasure trove! This was linked up at a Story of the World Facebook group.
I would LOVE it if you would link up your SOTW posts on the blog roll I'm hosting on my website. It's found here: http://homemakingwithheart.com/sotw-blog-roll-2014/
I'd also like to put your link in a couple of my SOTW posts - would you be OK with that?
Many blessings, from Victoria (homemakingwithheart.com)
Thank you for these! We're just about to start Vol. 1, and this will be perfect for it.
I am trying to download your timeline cards and notebook pages for SOTW 1 and it won't let me. it brings me to a virus warning page that i cannot get around. is there anyway of emailing me the download? probably not...I am a homeschool mom of 4 and I would not use it for anything other then printing and using in our home classroom. THank you...

Your amazing! What a blessing you are for sharing! God is making a way for me to say I can do this homeschooling thing. Through women like you thanks so much. We are already into chapter 2 of SOTW chapter 3 next week. So I found you just in time. History so not my thing. Thanks for you help.
This is such a BLESSING!!! Thank you so much! I am new to homeschooling (well, this is our 2nd year) andI am feeling very overwhelmed, so any help is greatly appreciated! "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace."

Just found your Story of the World resources! They are wonderful and such a blessing for our family! Thank you so very much!
I too just found these. I was thinking I'd have to purchase something and make it work so I really appreciate your sharing!
Thank you for sharing! I am new this to so sorry if this is an obvious answer. What do your kids do with the notebook pages? Do you have them summarize the chapter? Thanks!
Wow, you are so amazing! Thank you for all the effort! Can't wait to start Story of the World with my daughter! [She's 5. I think I'll wait till she's 7..]
Just found you through a Google search for resources. I love your timeline! It's exactly the sort of thing I want to incorporate this year as we continue in SOTW. Thank you so much for this free resource!
Just starting our homeschool journey and am so grateful for this info and printables...thank you!
These are great! Is there any way you could just make a matching blank notebooking page with just an empty timeline and empty boxes, in case we need to add a page for something?
Thank you so much!!!
Mary, these are fabulous! We are using them this year for SOTW, Volume I. How do I print them smaller and more per page? Is there a way to do that?
Mary, how do I print multiple images on the same page? I know there is a way and I've done it before but can't figure it out anymore. It makes smaller images and prints about 18 events per page. Thank you!
Gabrielle, Thanks for this tip. I am using them for a timeline notebook too and was going to have to figure out how many sheets to print per page so they would be the right size. :) Now I know. :) And Thank you Mary, for this WONDERFUL resource!!! You have no idea how helpful this was to find today !!
Hi, Just came across this and we have started Vol. 1 of Story of the World and this is such an excellent resource. Thank you for making it available to everyone else. I am so grateful! I am wondering what you had in mind for the notebooking pages. Besides putting a little star on where it falls on the timeline at the top, what notes do you suggest in the lined section, and is there something in particular that is supposed to go in the box in the bottom right-hand corner? Thanks.
Thanks so much!
Mary, hello! Im Spaniard, from Madrid. I just discover your blog, and I only can say OMG! you´re fantastic! Thanks a lots. Only one thing, I can download the timeline cards, could you help me please? Thanks again!
You have no idea what a blessing this is. Thank you for sharing these resources! God be with you and your sweet family --
Monica
Hi Mary! I was wondering if there's any chance of seeing timeline figures for SOTW 4 in the future. Thank you so much for 1-3, they are such a blessing!
Thank you especially for the notebooking pages!! Just what I was looking for :)
Hello Mary,
I have a similar question regarding the notebooking pages. Do each of the notebooking pages correspond with a specific chapter or only the timeline events from the back of the book?
Thank you,
Megan
Hi! I am looking for the timeline cards from Story of the World as well. Thanks for your help!
These are perfect for the huge timeline we're making right now! Thankyou so much for your time, effort and generosity.
This is amazing! Thank you for being so generous with your hard work and sharing this with us.
Thank you so much for this resource. I used these volumes with my first 2 kids and now I will start this year with our third son who came into our garden when our youngest was 10. I get to homeschool all over again! Thanks for helping make it easier and more enjoyable and memorable.
Just found your post and what can I say? You are such a blessing to my family in helping us to visually retain the things we have learned so far. Thank you for sharing! God Bless!
I just want to add my thanks as well. I have been struggling to make SOTW a bit more interesting...even with the activity book - I feel like it is just blah blah blah...a big coloring book. This really brought it to the next level - thank you.
Thank you so much and God bless you and your family.
Thank you so much for sharing! Next year will be our first year homeschooling and this is going to be so helpful.
